Following a chance encounter on a Brighton bus with an elderly gentleman who "smelt gently of drink", Fred Kinbom ditched his electric guitar in favour of an acoustic lap steel, and he's never looked back. Crystal Bar EP sees Kinbom stretching out his musical wings and exploring this new direction, and it's an overall success. The four tracks on here are rootsy and bluesy with a hint of jazz, not unlike a young Tom Waits, which is high praise indeed.
